Box 3694 Landers, California 92285 TEL: +1.760.4184203 MEETING MINUTES MARCH 16, 2009 Delegates present: Rick Sayers, Mike McGrath, Jim Harvey, Jim Hanley, Maryan Barkley, Betty Munson, Phyllis Burns, Elizabeth Karman, Earlene McCloskey, Ken Stermetz and Alan Rasmussen, Guests: Terry and John Burkart, Doug and Susan Lewis. Meeting called to order at: 3:05 p. m. at Yucca Mesa Flag Salute Minutes approved with correction Treasurers Report: Treasurer: $5,589.12 OLD BUSINESS: 1. Resignation of Bradley Thornton accepted. Rick Sayers appointed new president. Letter of appreciation to be sent to Bradley, 2. By-law change adding secretary as a co-signer approved. 3. Results of meeting with Land Use on Jan. 20 to be mailed to County tomorrow with 96 signatures against and only 3 for commercialization of Highway 247 through Flamingo Heights. 4. Finalized plans for wine & cheese party. Flyers discussed and suggestions for change. Tickets given to each member organization. Time changed to 3 p.m. till 6. 5. Old Woman Springs scenic/historic highway report from Betty Munson. San Bernardino County probably can’t help as 247 is a state highway. Earlene said a new YMIA member is a college teacher and would love to have her students help with a project of this nature. 6. San Bernardino County Special Districts discussion to be held until next meeting. 7. Withdrawal of Mike Lipsitz as delegate to be replaced by Elizabeth Karman. NEW BUSINESS: 1. Web site update by Jim Harvey. Change made to Johnson Valley web site link. Will work on site. 2. Meeting Alan Rasmussen and Neil Derry regarding AB 811 funding for energy efficiency Improvements by homeowners and business in rural communities of San Bernardino Co. Improvements must be property related and energy efficient, low interest loans for improvements which will be added to property taxes for repayment. Letter of support to be sent to San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors. Each member organization requested to send letter of support also. 3. San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters election procedures discussed by Alan Rassmussen. Odd year elections are very costly to agencies requiring elections then, such as Bighorn-Desert View Water. Even year will then fall with the major elections. Alan will check to see if this will apply to the officers due for elections at Bighorn-Desert View Water this November. 4. Hero Market requested to investigate installing a small post office in their new store. Item for info only. 5. Marine Base expansion discussed. 6. Motion to allow Elizabeth Karman to use bulk rate for Stop Yucca Valley annexation of Yucca Mesa mailing approved. 7.
